Environmental and social responsibility

We’re using our business to make a positive impact and leave a lasting legacy

It’s important to us that we operate sustainably and make a positive difference to the environment, the industry and the communities we work in.

We’re on a journey to reduce our carbon footprint, changing the way we do things and continuously striving to do things better.

We’re focussing on three places where we think we can have the most impact and promise to champion efficiency, improve our environmental practices and inspire the next generation of builders.

efficiency

Encourage and educate our clients

By far the greatest impact we can have is helping our clients improve the energy efficiency, performance and sustainability of their properties. We actively seek low carbon solutions and encourage clients to consider sustainable alternatives.

Budgets don’t always allow for going beyond legislation, but by sharing our expertise and helping clients find alternative green solutions, we can help to change the way the industry does things.

Helping the industry rethink retrofit

Refurbishment and retrofit – seen by many as the less glamorous side of construction compared to new builds. Yet an effective countrywide retrofit initiative would nearly triple the UK’s current rate of energy efficiency, future proof housing stock and help meet housing needs for a growing population.

Despite the financial and logistical challenges of improving existing stock, we want to make ‘deep’ retrofitting the industry norm. We encourage our clients to take a fabric-first approach, improving thermal performance, air tightness, and insulation, and installing renewable energy sources, to dramatically improve the energy efficiency and performance of a home.

We want to lead by example, so we look for ways we can reduce our carbon footprint, minimise waste, conserve natural resources and protect nature.

We're making better choices

  • Achieving ISO 9001 – a a globally recognized standard for quality management
  • Putting pressure on suppliers to stock sustainable options
  • Using certified timber where possible
  • Using the nearest local depot to reduce miles driven.

We're keeping waste out of landfill

We recycle around 98% of our waste – saving over 500 tonnes from landfill each year.

We're increasing homes for nature

Swift boxes, bat boxes, hedgehog highways and bee bricks. Wherever we can, we add features that support nature and improve the UK’s biodiversity.

Inspire the next
generation of builders

Construction is the foundation of everything in the building industry. So we’re helping to educate and inspire the next generation. We support local colleges, giving their students valuable hands-on experience, and champion apprenticeships through our PR activity.
